After living here for 12 years as a westerner, I have come to the conclusion that the people here in the farming countryside only live for themselves, don't think of others, do what they want, are totally not social, or have no idea what that means. No friendliness... nothing. The winter months are terrible, dark and gloomy, boring and quiet. There are no holidays, nothing. Going out, nothing. Far too little lighting. I do understand the youth, what is there for them to find here, what is left for them? Nothing. So that image, oh how nice in the countryside, how beautiful, what friendly people... no. Loneliness, and a whole lot of ageing. But luckily the end is almost in sight for us... I'll be glad when I can leave this place behind me. Yes, everything is bad here: healthcare, public transport, lighting, help. No, Stadskanaal is not gold. Clean, yes the streets are, but life and laughter are not, and what happens in the fields... but the streets are clean, yes. How do you say it... Moj Stadskanaal
