Living in Assumburg: a quiet neighbourhood with a social core

Assumburg is a residential area that does not immediately stand out, but it certainly has its own character. The neighbourhood scores a 7.1 on Buurtje.nl, where you can also find all resident reviews and neighbourhood data. Residents particularly appreciate the accessibility (8.0), green spaces (8.0), amenities (8.0), and education (8.0). They are less enthusiastic about the appearance of the buildings themselves, which score a 6.0 for aesthetics and a 5.0 for housing. The latter is honest: part of the housing stock consists of older flats, although efforts are actively being made towards sustainability and renovation.

Resident Carice describes the neighbourhood as a "good, child-rich area" where neighbours know and greet each other, and where you can let your children play outside safely. She mentions the playgrounds, a primary school at the end of the street, and a daycare centre nearby as concrete plus points. That picture matches the demographic figures: the 25 to 45 age group numbers over 1,000 residents, and although those aged 65 and over form the largest age group, there is also a clear presence of young families. The community feels involved, although the safety score of 7.0 is solid but not exceptional.

In terms of amenities, the neighbourhood scores well. Several primary schools are within reach, childcare is nearby, and shops for daily groceries are a short distance away. Heemskerk has a compact shopping centre where you can find supermarkets and other daily necessities. For larger shopping centres or a hospital, you can quickly drive to Beverwijk or IJmuiden. The connection to the A9 makes the neighbourhood easily accessible by car towards Amsterdam or Alkmaar. By train from Heemskerk station, you can reach Amsterdam in about 35 minutes. Bus services connect the neighbourhood with the centre of Heemskerk and surrounding areas. Neighbouring areas such as Slotherenbuurt and Verzetstrijdersbuurt border Assumburg and offer similar living environments, while Beijerlust has a slightly different character.

For whom is a home in Assumburg a good choice?

Good neighbourhood with lots of children

Cosy, neighbours talk to each other, you know everyone, lots of playgrounds so it's nice to let your child grow up here, at the end of the street a primary school and on the street a daycare centre. Great location. The flat itself is a bit outdated but they are working on making it more sustainable and renovating.
