Pieterswijk is a lively, central neighbourhood in Leiden, right between the city's three student associations. One resident describes it as "Busy but cosy", noting the daytime bustle from tourists and evening activity from students, which they find cosy rather than disturbing. They appreciate the many restaurants, the nearby supermarket, and the proximity to water and the Hortus. However, they mention that driving in the neighbourhood can be tricky due to restrictions and detours, and they feel there isn't enough greenery, most plants come from residents, not the municipality. Based on this single review, the neighbourhood scores a 6.88 out of 10. The area is densely populated, with mostly one-person households and a young population. For more context, see the Pieterswijk neighbourhood.
Wolsteeg is a street in the historic centre, so daily life is very walkable. For groceries, Ekoplaza is just around the corner, with SPAR and Hoogvliet a couple of streets away. For primary schools, Haanstra Basisschool is a five-minute walk, and OBS Lucas van Leyden is also within easy reach. The neighbourhood is part of the municipality of Leiden, which offers a wide range of amenities.

It's right in the centre of Leiden, between the 3 associations. There's not only daytime bustle from tourists but also in the evening from all the students walking through the neighbourhood. Personally, I find it very cosy and not disturbing. Furthermore, there are plenty of nice little restaurants and a supermarket nearby. You live close to the water and the Hortus, so there's plenty to do. Unfortunately, getting into this neighbourhood by car is a bit of a course because you're not allowed everywhere and sometimes you have to take huge detours. In my opinion, there isn't enough greenery in the neighbourhood; we do have a park, but more trees could be planted in the streets and surroundings. Most of the greenery is often from the people who live there, not from the municipality. Otherwise, I'd say the housing situation is fine. There are some association houses, owner-occupied houses, and plenty of rental properties.
