I've been living here for almost 2 years now and all in all I'm satisfied. Of course, I sometimes see young guys on the street shouting hot-headedly and pushing/shoving each other, but that's part of it. Furthermore, I feel safe here and hardly anything happens. I don't feel attached to my neighbours or the other people on my street, but I do recognise a few and always say a friendly hello, and get it back. There are no arguments and we let each other live and leave each other alone, fine! The centre has enough amenities and I don't really miss anything, except for the fact that there is no Chinese restaurant that delivers food, but that might be very specific of me. For a place so central, I'm satisfied with how much green there is. Recently, a new small green area was added and I find this very pleasant both for the eye and for walking my dog. In terms of hygiene, I find it quite substandard. People leave dog poop lying around, there is often vomit on the street from people who have been out and about, and a lot of litter and food scraps. This surprises me in a negative way and I find it a great pity. This is the only downside; otherwise, I am very happy and satisfied with both my place and the environment!

About Grote Kerkstraat 11D, Meppel
At €225,000, this is the cheapest home currently for sale in Historisch Centrum and 42% below the average asking price of €389,625 in the neighbourhood. The price per m² works out at about €5,114, which is above the neighbourhood average of €4,232 per m², but that reflects the compact size. Given the central location and the fact that it's a studio, the price is keen for the area.
The energy label is C, which is decent for a home built in 1850. It means the property has reasonable insulation and heating efficiency, though you can expect moderate energy costs. In the neighbourhood, about 22% of homes have label C, while over half have A or better, so this is in line with the local stock.
The train station is 1.3 km away, about a 15-minute walk.
Based on the one resident review, the area feels safe: "I feel safe here and hardly anything happens." The reviewer mentions occasional shouting from young people but no serious incidents. The total number of reported crimes in the neighbourhood is 255, but without a per-capita breakdown, it's hard to compare directly.
The resident review highlights that street hygiene can be poor, dog poop, litter, and vomit are sometimes seen. Also, there's no Chinese restaurant that delivers, which the reviewer notes as a minor lack. On the plus side, the centre has plenty of amenities and green spaces have recently been improved.
The building dates from 1850, making it one of the older properties in the neighbourhood, about 20% of homes here were built before 1945. An older building often means character features like high ceilings or original details, but also potential maintenance considerations. The energy label C suggests some modernisation has been done.
