How to organise a cosy neighbourhood barbecue?

Summer is the perfect time to get to know your neighbours! A great way to do that is by organising a neighbourhood barbecue. But how do you ensure your barbecue is the best on the block? In this blog post, we give you a step-by-step guide to planning and organising the perfect neighbourhood barbecue. So grab the paper plates and fetch the ketchup - it's time to grill!

Step 1: Choose a date and time for your barbecue

The first step in planning your barbecue is choosing a date and time that works for the majority of your neighbours. If you want everyone to be able to attend, you need to pick a date and time that works for as many people as possible. An evening or weekend barbecue is usually best, as most people are off work then. Once you have chosen a date and time, you need to send out invitations (more on that later).

Step 2: Plan your menu

No barbecue is complete without food, so the next step is planning your menu. If you're not much of a cook, no worries: a barbecue is the perfect opportunity to whip up some simple but tasty dishes. Hamburgers, hot dogs, and veggie burgers are always crowd-pleasers, or try grilled chicken or BBQ ribs. Don't forget the sides! Salads, chips and dip, and fruit are all great accompaniments to a grilling evening. And of course, don't forget the drinks! Make sure there's plenty of soda, water, beer, and wine so everyone stays hydrated while enjoying the sunny weather.

Step 3: Send out invitations

Once you have settled on the date and menu, it's time to send out invitations! You can deliver invitations in person or send them electronically via email or social media. Whichever method you choose, make sure everyone has enough time to respond so you can get an accurate headcount for the food. Also include all important details, such as where the barbecue is taking place and what time it starts. And don't forget to ask if anyone has dietary restrictions so you can accommodate them!

Step 4: Prepare your grill

If you haven't used your grill in a while, now is the time to give it a good clean so it's ready for use. Also make sure you have all the necessary supplies on hand, such as lighter fluid (if needed), charcoal (if used), matches or a lighter, tongs, etc. Once your grill is clean and stocked with all the essentials, you can start cooking!

Have fun!

Ultimately, a neighbourhood barbecue should be about having fun! So relax, enjoy, and let your neighbours do the same. If everyone has a good time, they'll surely come back next year! And who knows, maybe you can even convince them to help you organise it next time. ;-)
