Living in Hoogbouw-Zuid, Ede

The name says it all: Hoogbouw-Zuid owes its name to the tower blocks that define the skyline of this neighbourhood. These are post-war high-rise buildings, constructed in the 1960s and 1970s as part of Ede's expansion to the south. Most homes are porch flats and gallery flats, with a modest floor area that suits the type of resident who has traditionally lived here: single-person households and small families with lower incomes. The average disposable income per resident is €21,700, clearly below the municipal average of €37,000. That colours the neighbourhood: it is not a trendy urban district, but a functional, down-to-earth area where people live who are looking for affordability.

Living in Hoogbouw-Zuid means living in a compact, densely built neighbourhood with a direct, no-nonsense atmosphere. The public space is functional in design, with little greenery, which is also reflected in the residents' score for green space: a 5 out of 10. If you value a green living environment, you will miss that here. The buildings are dated, and the architectural appearance scores only a 3 out of 10 from residents for beauty. At the same time, the neighbourhood is well-connected and has basic amenities, making it attractive for people who want to live practically without too much fuss.

Comparison with neighbouring neighbourhoods
If you are undecided between Hoogbouw-Zuid and surrounding neighbourhoods, it is a good idea to also look at the Uitvindersbuurt or Enka, two other neighbourhoods in Ede-Zuid with their own character. The Uitvindersbuurt has a slightly more varied housing supply, while Enka is known for its special industrial history and the transformation of the former ENKA factory site into a residential area. Hoogbouw-Zuid is the most affordable and most compact option of these three, but also the least green. Safe neighbourhood with some areas for improvement

The neighbourhood is nice and safe. People I meet are always friendly and we help each other when needed. However, it could sometimes be a bit tidier or the greenery could be better maintained. But at the same time, you have all facilities within reach and there is never any nuisance! A very nice neighbourhood.
