Living in Componistenbuurt-Zuid, Alphen aan den Rijn

Componistenbuurt-Zuid is a residential neighbourhood with character. The streets are named after composers, the buildings are predominantly from the 1970s and mainly consist of terraced houses and semi-detached houses. It is not a trendy new-build neighbourhood, but one that has proven its worth for years: quiet, orderly and with a real neighbourhood community.

What sets the neighbourhood apart is its multicultural composition. Resident Daphne Oudmaijer describes it aptly: "I find the experience of the neighbourhood pleasant. I love multiculturalism and that's what it is here. You find everything here. We have Islamic butchers and people mix well here in the neighbourhood." That mix is visible in the shops, the street and daily life. Not everyone is looking for that, but those who are will find it here naturally.

Shopping centre De Ridderhof, close to the neighbourhood, has recently undergone a renovation and looks tidy again. Here you will find daily groceries, a pharmacy and various small shops. For a larger range of shops, the city centre of Alphen aan den Rijn is within cycling distance. The neighbourhood also has a good mix of primary schools in the immediate vicinity, although the sub-score for education in resident reviews is notably low (1.0 out of 10), which is a point of attention for families buying a home here. It is wise to check in advance which schools are available and what the waiting lists are like.

In terms of green space, the neighbourhood scores an 8.0. There are playgrounds and smaller green strips spread throughout the district, and the countryside around Alphen is easily accessible by bike. Accessibility by public transport even gets a 10.0 from residents. Alphen aan den Rijn station is about a ten-minute bike ride away and offers direct connections to Leiden, Gouda and Utrecht. From Alphen, the A11 towards The Hague and the N11 towards the Randstad are also accessible. Bus connections through the district provide additional public transport coverage.

Compared to sister neighbourhoods in the district Ridderveld, Componistenbuurt-Zuid has a slightly more mixed population composition. Neighbourhoods such as Ridderbuurt and Horstenbuurt-Noord are in the same price range but have a different character. Burgtenbuurt is also a neighbourhood worth comparing if you are looking in this part of Alphen. Nice neighbourhood

I find the experience of the neighbourhood pleasant. I love multiculturalism and that's what it is here. You can find all sorts of things here. We have Islamic butchers and people mix well here in the neighbourhood. We've just had the renovation of shopping centre De Ridderhof and it looks tidy again. Nearby we also have a huge recreational area with a massive ditch, where you can rip, waterski, or take a forest walk. All in all, a nice neighbourhood. Nothing has ever happened to us here or have I felt unsafe, no, that's not an issue. Education is anyway poor if you have a child with multiple diagnoses who never gets help..
