Living in Dragonder Noord, Veenendaal

Dragonder Noord is a quiet, green residential neighbourhood in the north-eastern part of Veenendaal. The district was largely built in the 1970s and 1980s, which is reflected in its spacious layout: wide streets, plenty of greenery between the homes and generous gardens. The neighbourhood does not feel compact or urban, but rather like a place where people have consciously chosen peace and space.

One resident describes it as follows: "Nice neighbourhood with lovely people. We have plenty of space for children to play, with nice playgrounds in front of the house and some larger playgrounds within walking distance, little car traffic which makes it safe." That low traffic volume is something you really notice in the streets. At the same time, that same resident notes a shift: nowadays fewer children and more elderly people live there. This matches the figures: the largest age group is 65-plus (1,265 residents), while the number of families with children is relatively limited. The neighbourhood is ageing, but that also makes it quiet and stable.

In terms of amenities, Dragonder Noord is well provided. Within cycling distance you will find shopping centre De Batterijen, with a supermarket, pharmacy and various shops for daily groceries. For a wider range, Veenendaal city centre is easily accessible. There are primary schools in the immediate vicinity, and for secondary education you can go to Veenendaal centre. For sports, there are opportunities through various clubs in the surrounding neighbourhoods.

Accessibility scores well with residents (8.0). Veenendaal-De Klomp and Veenendaal-Centrum are the nearest train stations, with connections towards Utrecht and Arnhem. By car, the neighbourhood connects to the A12 and A30, allowing you to quickly reach Utrecht or the Veluwe. The cycling infrastructure in Veenendaal is generally good, and Dragonder Noord is connected to the centre and surrounding neighbourhoods via cycle paths.

The total neighbourhood score based on resident reviews is 7.4 out of 10. Green spaces (8.0), accessibility (8.0), housing (8.0) and beauty (9.0) score notably high. Less strong are safety (6.0) and sense of community (5.0). The latter ties in with the demographic shift: a neighbourhood with many elderly people sometimes has less social dynamics than a neighbourhood full of young families. See all reviews and neighbourhood data on the information page for Dragonder Noord.

Compared to neighbourhoods such as Dragonder Oost and Dragonder Zuid, Dragonder Noord has a somewhat quieter character. If you are looking for a livelier environment, you could also look at De Compagnie Oost or owner-occupied homes in the wider Noordoost district. The WOZ values in Noordoost are on average higher, but Dragonder Noord offers an attractive price-quality ratio within that.

Nice neighbourhood with lovely people

We have a nice neighbourhood, plenty of space for children to play, with fun playgrounds right in front of the house and some larger playgrounds within walking distance, little car traffic which makes it safe and has always made it a pleasant place to play, nowadays many fewer children and many older people. Most neighbours are very friendly but there is little contact, many closed-off people, but they are still very friendly when you greet them when you run into them. I myself would like it if we worked a bit more on the mutual bond, more neighbourhood barbecues etc., to see and talk to each other more. Otherwise a great place to have grown up and in times of need I have felt support.
