Living in Twistvlied-Wickelhof: village character with urban convenience

Twistvlied-Wickelhof is located on the southwest side of Mijdrecht and has a recognisable village character. The neighbourhood consists mainly of terraced houses and semi-detached houses from the 1970s and 1980s, supplemented by a number of newer homes and apartments towards the Wickelhof. The streetscape is quiet, with wide pavements, front gardens and the occasional playground. It is not a neighbourhood with architectural highlights, but it is a place where you notice that people have lived for years and have adapted their homes in their own way.

With 3,060 residents, it is a medium-sized neighbourhood. The largest age group is 45 to 65 years (870 people), but there are also many families with children (465 households). This is easy to explain: there are several primary schools in the immediate vicinity and a secondary school is also nearby. Resident Rianne confirms this in her review: "Nice neighbourhood to live in with a family. There are primary schools and a secondary school. This is very convenient if you are going to live here with a family." She gives the neighbourhood a 7.7 out of 10.

In terms of amenities, you are well catered for. The centre of Mijdrecht with supermarkets, shops and restaurants is within cycling distance. For daily groceries, you hardly need to leave the neighbourhood. Where Twistvlied-Wickelhof really excels is accessibility: residents give this a 9 out of 10. Bus lines connect Mijdrecht with Uithoorn, Amstelveen and Amsterdam Zuidoost. Mijdrecht does not have its own train station, but bus stops are within walking distance.

Rianne also notes that in some places there is a lot of litter on the streets and that more and more green space is disappearing. This is reflected in the sub-scores: green space and cleanliness both score a 7 out of 10, while safety and community spirit get an 8. So it is not a perfect neighbourhood, but an honest one. Nice neighbourhood to live in with a family, sometimes there is a lot of litter on the street

Fairly good experience. There are primary schools and a secondary school. This is very convenient if you are going to live here with a family. I do notice that more and more nature is disappearing, which is a shame. Also, in some places there is a lot of rubbish on the streets. The village is very convenient and is easily accessible by bus from most places. Every Thursday there is a market in the village with delicious food. During holidays there are also fun things to find in the village, such as an ice rink at Christmas and a flea market on King's Day. On King's Day there is also always a fair, which does get more expensive every year.
