A pre-war apartment on a lively Amsterdam street

This apartment on Admiraal De Ruijterweg sits in a classic 1910 building, right in the thick of things. The listing does not state an energy label. As a result, the rest of this page is mainly about the street and the neighbourhood, not the home itself. At €640,000, the price is in line with the market for apartments in Amsterdam.

The Trompbuurt neighbourhood

Trompbuurt is a dense, urban pocket with a mix of students, expats and long-term residents. Based on two reviews, opinions are mixed. One resident describes a "pleasant atmosphere but not much neighbourhood feeling", noting friendly people but a lack of togetherness and a divide between groups. Another calls it a "cosy neighbourhood", praising the ice cream shop and playground, though wishing for more facilities for older children. The area is very urban, address density is over 11,500 per km², and most homes are flats. For more context, see the Trompbuurt neighbourhood.

Life on the street

Daily errands are easy: an Albert Heijn is just around the corner, and an Aldi is a couple of streets away. For primary schools, the Admiraal De Ruyterschool is on your doorstep, and De Visserschool is a short walk. The neighbourhood has a high proportion of young adults (25-45), so the area feels lively. A restaurant is just around the corner, and a park is a five-minute walk. For broader surroundings, check the municipality of Amsterdam.

Pleasant atmosphere but not much neighbourhood feeling

It's nice there and friendly people. But a sense of togetherness is lacking and I don't have much contact with my neighbours either, which I regret. My primary school days in this neighbourhood were really perfect and the restaurants and shops are also very good. But there are many students and expats, which makes me feel a certain divide and not much community. I myself would like to move out, but that's certainly not possible in my neighbourhood because they are far too expensive.

Cosy neighbourhood

Nice and cosy, there is an ice cream shop and a playground called de ruige speeltijn but now it's for babies because everything is getting super small, which is a shame, but the rest is great. We get along well and some of my friends live very close by, which is also nice. But I do think there should be more playgrounds for older children, because babies are fine at home too, but older kids just end up on their phones or laptops, so more playgrounds for older children, that's the only thing.
