A room in lively Poptahof-Zuid

This room on Taj Mahalplaats is a rental in the heart of Delft's Poptahof-Zuid neighbourhood. This listing does not state a house number, postcode, floor area, year of construction or energy label. As a result, the rest of this page is mainly about the street and the neighbourhood, not the home itself. At €420 per month, the rent is well below the neighbourhood average of €2,060, which makes sense for a room rather than a whole home. For more context, see rooms in Delft.

The Poptahof-Zuid neighbourhood

Poptahof-Zuid is a compact, lively part of Delft, with a mix of residents and a strong sense of daily bustle. One resident describes it as "Lively thanks to the Hoven passage. Annoying thanks to certain people in the neighbourhood." That single review gives a flavour of the area: vibrant, but not without its challenges. The neighbourhood is home to many young adults, with a high proportion of single-person households. It's a place where life happens on the street, and the Hoven passage is a clear focal point. For more on the area, see the Poptahof-Zuid neighbourhood.

Life on the street

Daily life here is convenient. For groceries, Jumbo is just around the corner, with Dirk a couple of streets away and an AH XL within a five-minute walk. For schools, the Parkschool is just around the corner, and ISK Delft is a five-minute walk, with the Grotius College for Mavo, Havo and Vwo a bit further. The train station is about a ten-minute walk, and the Hoven passage offers shops and eateries nearby. It's a practical spot for students and young professionals. For more on the wider area, see the municipality of Delft.

The idea is nice

No sense of community, little contact, also some loitering youths, a lot of litter in the area.. I often clean up rubbish but the next day it's all over the ground again.. experienced a burglary at the neighbours' in broad daylight.. that does create a feeling of insecurity.. In addition, I sometimes have trouble with men following me.. and fireworks are set off all year round, also randomly at 3am.. There are 2 nice playgrounds in the neighbourhood but I often don't find them safe for children because there is too much litter.. think lots of cigarette butts and glass and many other things.. but it's nice that the facility is there

Reasonably quiet neighbourhood with many flats

I think it's a fine neighbourhood, except that I sometimes feel unsafe when I cycle late in the evening. Other than that, I never really have trouble with people. The neighbourhood could be a bit greener in my opinion, but well, it's mostly flats and they're not that pretty.

Diverse neighbourhood

In the neighbourhood you have many amenities within walking distance, a shopping centre with many types of shops and several supermarkets. Unfortunately, there is nuisance in the neighbourhood and mainly in my building from loitering youths, fatbikers and junkies. I have encountered people on the stairs several times who were using drugs (crack). The fire escape is full of (stolen) stuff and other rubbish. Many packages are stolen in the building. The neighbourhood sometimes experiences nuisance from students (of which I am a part, not the nuisance).
