Hunnerberg is a green, hilly residential neighbourhood on the south side of Nijmegen-Oost, nestled between Valkhofpark, the ice-pushed ridge and Goffertpark. It is a neighbourhood with plenty of character: wide avenues with pre-war villas and 1930s homes along Ubbergseveldweg and Berg en Dalseweg, interspersed with post-war semi-detached houses and a few small-scale apartment complexes. As the name suggests, you literally live on a hill here, with views in some places towards the Ooijpolder and the Waal. The atmosphere is quiet, almost village-like, despite the city centre being within cycling distance.

The largest age group is 65-plus (1,380 of the 4,320 residents), and you can tell: it is an established neighbourhood where people stay for a long time. By bike, you can reach Central Station or the centre of Nijmegen in ten minutes, although you have to take the hill on the way back into account. Bus routes towards the station and centre stop along Berg en Dalseweg (including lines 5 and 6). By car, you can reach the A73 and A325 within ten minutes. Parking is still free in parts of Hunnerberg, but in the streets closer to the centre, paid parking or a permit system applies. Resident J.F. calls it a "neat, expensive neighbourhood with solid people", but notes that street waste collection could be better. That is a recurring point: on collection days, the bins are sometimes left out for a long time.

Compared to neighbouring areas in Nijmegen-Oost, Hunnerberg is quieter and greener than Bottendaal, which is more of a student neighbourhood with a livelier streetscape. Kwakkenberg is similar in terms of peace and green space, but even more exclusive.
