Living in Zandrijk, Eindhoven

Zandrijk is a quiet, green residential neighbourhood in the Meerhoven district, on the western side of Eindhoven near the airport. The neighbourhood is relatively young, largely built in the 2000s as part of the large-scale Vinex development of Meerhoven. This means new-build homes, wide streets, plenty of greenery, and a well-thought-out layout with separate cycle and footpaths. The types of homes are diverse: detached houses, semi-detached houses, and terraced houses, supplemented by a limited number of apartments. The atmosphere is quiet and family-oriented. With 840 residents in the 45 to 65 age group as the largest cohort, and 525 households with children, this is clearly a neighbourhood where families put down roots and stay.

Facilities
Zandrijk does not have its own shopping centre, but this is a deliberate design choice: the nearby Meerhoven shopping centre (within cycling distance) provides for daily groceries, including a supermarket, pharmacy, GP, and various shops. For a wider range of amenities, Eindhoven city centre is easily accessible. Schools are located in the immediate vicinity, which partly explains why residents give an education score of 9.0. In terms of sports, Zandrijk benefits from its location next to the Aquabest swimming pool and recreation area, and various sports clubs are active in the wider area. Playgrounds and parks are scattered throughout the neighbourhood, appealing to families with young children.

Accessibility
By car, Zandrijk is excellently accessible via the A2 and A58 motorways, which are a short distance away. Eindhoven city centre can be reached in about ten minutes. By public transport, bus routes connect Zandrijk to Eindhoven station, although the frequency is limited at certain times. This explains the high accessibility score of 9.0 given by residents: the car is the primary mode of transport here, and the infrastructure is well set up for it. Cycling to the city centre takes about 20 to 25 minutes via the main cycle paths. Parking is generally not a problem in Zandrijk: most homes have their own driveway or garage, and there is sufficient public parking space available.
