Elsrijk Oost is a quiet, green neighbourhood in the south of Amstelveen, characterised by a mix of post-war construction and later expansions, mainly from the 1960s and 1970s. Here you will find terraced houses, semi-detached houses and some multi-family homes in the form of porch flats and gallery flats. The streets are wide, there are many trees, and the neighbourhood has an orderly, well-maintained character without feeling sterile.

In terms of amenities, the neighbourhood is well provided. Within walking distance you will find daily groceries at the supermarkets in or around the Stadshart of Amstelveen, which also offers a wide range of shops, restaurants and services. Children can attend several primary schools in the immediate vicinity, and there are playgrounds scattered throughout the neighbourhood. The Amsterdamse Bos is within cycling distance and offers extensive walking and cycling opportunities. Resident Wendy describes it as follows: "It's green everywhere, beautiful spots, playgrounds, centres and nice little shops." That image is correct: greenery is a strong point of Elsrijk Oost.

Nice people and friendly

It's a friendly neighbourhood. The neighbours are nice, we help each other and if something happens, everyone knows about it, so it's a very pleasant neighbourhood except for the children of today who shout and swear and open your parcels. But otherwise it's a nice neighbourhood. But when it comes to rubbish, it's really bad, the council does little to keep the waste tidy. They need to clear the rubbish more often.
