Ede is a town with the Veluwe as its back garden. Woods and heathland begin on its northern and eastern sides, the Gelderse Vallei on its western side. Read the reviews residents leave on Buurtje.nl and that comes up again and again: almost everyone mentions the woods or the heath a few minutes' walk away. The real question is whether you also have the centre, the school and the supermarket close by.
An honest caveat first: only six districts in Ede have at least three reviews, and none has more than nine. The differences between numbers two to five are small. Treat this as a first impression that will sharpen with every new review.
Ede-Oost: the centre and the heath within walking distance
Ede-Oost scores 8.3 (5 reviews) and tops the list. The district covers the centre of Ede, the Burgemeestersbuurt, the Stationsbuurt and the Komponistenbuurt. Accessibility (9.6) and amenities (9.2) stand out. A resident of the centre writes that both the shops and the heath and woods are five minutes' walk away, and that she has never felt unsafe there. In the Komponistenbuurt someone is even more precise: woods five minutes, centre ten minutes, bus stop four minutes.
What is less good: cleanliness scores 6.4, and on Friday and Saturday nights the area around the centre is busy with people going out. One resident finds the houses in his street a bit dull, but still gives the area a solid pass. With almost seventy homes for sale in Ede-Oost and a handful of homes for rent, supply here is the largest in town.
Ede-West: neighbours who look after each other
Ede-West gets an 8.1 and, with nine reviews, has the best supported score in Ede. Neighbourhoods such as the Vogelbuurt, the Zeeheldenbuurt, the Bloemenbuurt and Klaphek are here. The scores are strikingly even: everything is between 7.7 and 8.4. Amenities, safety and accessibility score highest.
What makes the reviews from Ede-West stand out is what they say about the neighbours. A Bloemenbuurt resident explains that after an accident, the neighbourhood looked after her and her dogs for a year and a half. Others mention the community centre, where a lot goes on and where people who are lonely at home are not forgotten. Someone who moved from Amsterdam has felt safe there from day one. Three districts close together
Next come three districts that barely differ in score, but each have their own character.
- Rietkampen: 8.0 (6 reviews). A family district with De Singels, De States and De Dreven. Greenery and amenities get an 8.5. A resident without a driving licence is glad the shopping centre, hospital, cinema and station are close by. One person misses trees in the street, and there are occasionally youths hanging around the playgrounds. There are over twenty homes for sale in Rietkampen and one home for rent.
- Ede-Zuid: 7.8 (5 reviews). With the Reehorst, Enka and the Uitvindersbuurt. Accessibility (9.4) and education (9.0) are the highest scores in all of Ede. Residents describe neighbours you share a coffee with, but also youths hanging around at night and greenery that could be better maintained (greenery 6.6, cleanliness 6.2). - Bennekom: 7.7 (5 reviews). The village between Ede and Wageningen is part of the municipality of Ede. Greenery and education score 8.2. "Quiet and pleasant living, an oasis of calm yet central," writes one resident, with the woods within walking distance. Younger residents sometimes find it a bit dull and mention many older people. Ede-Veldhuizen: affordable, but with nuisance
Ede-Veldhuizen closes the list with a 7.1 (6 reviews). That is still a pass, and education even gets an 8.4. Residents call the district friendly, with many playgrounds and young and old living side by side. One family appreciates that you can live here "for a not too high price".
The weak points are greenery (6.2) and community (6.5). Residents on a through road are bothered by scooters and cars racing along it. Youths sometimes hang around in a park in De Velden en Beken, and a resident of a block of flats in De Dalen complains about dirty hallways. What about the villages?
The municipality of Ede is much bigger than the town. Lunteren, Otterlo, Wekerom, Harskamp and Ederveen have only one or two reviews so far, and the new districts Kernhem and Veluwse Poort have none yet. That is why they are not in the ranking. Lunteren does have the largest supply outside town, with over a hundred homes for sale, and Otterlo has around eighty on the market. Live in one of these villages or districts?
