Frequently asked questions

About Dorpsweg 19, Onnen

Is €1,249,000 a fair price for this detached house?

The price is on the high side for a vrijstaande woning in Groningen, but the 363 m² floor area and 1,010 m² plot are generous. The home has energy label B, which is efficient. In Onnen, houses rarely come up for sale, so the premium reflects the scarcity in this sought-after village.

What is the energy label and what does it mean?

The energy label is B, which means the home is quite energy-efficient. You can expect relatively low heating costs compared to older homes with lower labels. The 1930s build has likely been well insulated and modernised to achieve this rating.

How far is the nearest train station?

The nearest train station is 3.3 km away. That is about a 40-minute walk or a short cycle ride.

What is the neighbourhood like?

Onnen Dorp is a quiet village with a strong community spirit. Residents organise activities, there is a village pub, and nature is on your doorstep. The downside is that houses rarely come up for sale and are expensive, making it hard for starters. The bus service is limited to morning and afternoon.

How big is the plot and what can I do with it?

The plot is 1,010 m², which is very spacious. It offers plenty of room for a garden, outdoor entertaining, or even a vegetable patch.

Are there schools nearby?

Yes, the nearest primary school is IKC Quintusschool, about 1.8 km away. There are also other primary schools within 5 km, such as Christelijk Kindcentrum Menso Altingschool and Rooms Katholieke Basisschool Mariaschool. For secondary education, Drenthe College Terra is about 5 km away.

What supermarkets are close by?

The closest supermarket is Jumbo at about 1.9 km. Within 5 km there are also an Aldi, Albert Heijn, another Jumbo, and Ekoplaza. For daily shopping, the Jumbo is a short drive or cycle away.

A beautiful village nestled between two forests and two lakes.

It is my birthplace and I have experienced all the ins and outs of the village. Four years ago, the jackpot of the Postcode Lottery fell in Glimmen. For me, it was much less fun at that time because I was in hospital with serious liver problems, even at New Year's I was still there after two cardiac arrests, luckily resuscitated in time. Then such a lottery prize becomes a side issue; I had four tickets!!!?. But when you almost die, money is not an option. Now more about Glimmen: it is a water extraction area for Groningen, and our tap water comes from the little river Drentse A and groundwater that is pumped up. Glimmen is also historically important; there are stories about Bommenberend staying in a castle and besieging Groningen in the year 1700 or 1800. In Glimmen, there is still a castle in the Drentse A area. Best regards, Jan Jager

A lot is organised by various associations, from music to all kinds of activities and festivities. There is an ice rink (in summer a large football field), playground, basketball court and a mini library. We have a community centre with a village pub. We still have an old-fashioned village newspaper with information for and about the villagers. Walk each other's dog? No problem! Feed the cats during the holidays? Check! Neighbourhood drinks next week? Cosy! Walking or cycling, you are in the middle of nature in no time (the Onner polder or the forest). It's lovely living in a quiet village, but there is also plenty to do. I've been living here for 7 years now and I'm sure many more years will follow. Points for improvement? Finding a house here is not easy. Few houses are for sale and those that are for sale are pricey, very difficult for starters/young families. Previously, the bus ran all day to/through Onnen, now only in the morning and afternoon. A pity.

Green, rural yet close to all amenities!

Glimmen is a leafy village with lots of nature and forest. Many detached houses and a wide choice of associations and clubs. The location is also ideal relative to motorways and Groningen. Haren is a cosy village with a wide variety of shops. Especially in summer some nuisance from air traffic, but not too dominant.
