It is my birthplace and I have experienced all the ins and outs of the village. Four years ago, the jackpot of the Postcode Lottery fell in Glimmen. For me, it was much less fun at that time because I was in hospital with serious liver problems, even at New Year's I was still there after two cardiac arrests, luckily resuscitated in time. Then such a lottery prize becomes a side issue; I had four tickets!!!?. But when you almost die, money is not an option. Now more about Glimmen: it is a water extraction area for Groningen, and our tap water comes from the little river Drentse A and groundwater that is pumped up. Glimmen is also historically important; there are stories about Bommenberend staying in a castle and besieging Groningen in the year 1700 or 1800. Glimmen is a leafy village with lots of nature and forest. Many detached houses and a wide choice of associations and clubs. The location is also ideal relative to motorways and Groningen. Haren is a cosy village with a wide variety of shops. Especially in summer some nuisance from air traffic, but not too dominant.

A lot is organised by various associations, from music to all kinds of activities and festivities. There is an ice rink (in summer a large football field), playground, basketball court and a mini library. We have a community centre with a village pub. We still have an old-fashioned village newspaper with information for and about the villagers. Walk each other's dog? No problem! Feed the cats during the holidays? Check! Neighbourhood drinks next week? Cosy! Walking or cycling, you are in the middle of nature in no time (the Onner polder or the forest). It's lovely living in a quiet village, but there is also plenty to do. I've been living here for 7 years now and I'm sure many more years will follow. Points for improvement? Finding a house here is not easy. Few houses are for sale and those that are for sale are pricey, very difficult for starters/young families. Previously, the bus ran all day to/through Onnen, now only in the morning and afternoon. A pity.

Ik woon hier nu, met ups en downs qua lawaai/herrie, nu 12,5 jaar. Altijd gekozen om hier toch te blijven, gezien de fijne buren en nette straat, met de mooie Hamburgervijver om de hoek waar ik graag eens zit te relaxen. Alle voorzieningen vlakbij en bushalte aan de kade, ideaal als je vaak en graag reist :). Ik voel me hier onderhand erg veilig, in al die tijd alleen eens een brand geweest maar verder kun je hier rustig je leventje leven, veelal hoog opgeleide buren, wat prettig is in het contact. Ik ben blij dat ik hier nog steeds woon.

Mooie huizen, goede voorzieningen, rustig, zo in de stad. toppp

People are friendly, I enjoy living here.

There is always something to do. There are supermarkets and plenty of other shops, cafeterias, fresh bread from the bakery. Market once a week, a nice park with ponds for fishing.
